Raising A Child Now Costs Almost $240K
Whether you have kids or not, think about this: What did it cost to raise YOU?
The cost of raising a child in the United States has risen to almost $240,000… and that’s just for the basics (college or trade school tuition not included).
Lending Tree examined costs of necessities, from birth to age 18, and did not include enrichment activities – like sports and arts.
Childcare, alone, costs parents an average of $12,000 per year. That’s an amount which has caused some parents to stop working.
“It’s daunting when you consider that we don’t even factor in the cost of college, for example, in these numbers,” a representative from Lending Tree said. “It’s completely understandable that people are scared to death of how they are going to pay to raise that kid.”
