According to Better Homes and Gardens, you’re throwing money away each time you go shopping by improperly storing these produce items after you get home.
Tomatoes belong out on the countertop. Cold storage will actually change their texture and cause them to lose flavor. Same goes for avocados, which won’t ripen in the refrigerator.
Citrus fruits do better in the cold, as will certain kinds of squashes. Most mushrooms should definitely be kept in a brown bag inside the fridge otherwise they’ll go bad quickly.
