Stolen BMWs Crash Along I-80 Near I-47 – State Police Investigate
Traffic backed up this morning, along Interstate 80, between Route 47 and Interstate 55, in particular, after at least six stolen BMW vehicles were involved in speeding, crashes and getaways.
Illinois State Police have been investigating several locations, along I-80, after at least two or three of the vehicles collided while speeding.  One is in a ditch.  Two other BMW’s were used as getaway vehicles, when the others were abandoned.  The last vehicle seen fled eastbound, on I-80, toward I-55.
Lanes are open, but may be blocked, periodically, during the investigation.
It all started when a BMW hit a Grundy County Sheriff’s vehicle.  There was a wrong-way chase, along I-80.  Police then set up spike strips to stop the speeding autos.  Several of the vehicles then crashed – drivers all abandoned them and hopped into a getaway BMW.  Near the end, in New Lenox, there was a carjacking reported, during which five men took over another vehicle.  Then there was another crash.
