Illinois Winter High School Sports Put On Hold

Winter high school sports are being put on hold in Illinois. Practice for boys and girls basketball seasons were expected to begin next month, but the Illinois Department of Public Health moved the sport from medium risk to high risk on its website. Under current conditions in the COVID-19 pandemic, high-risk sports are allowed no-contact practices only. However, the site also states that basketball would be considered “low” risk if participants maintain six feet of distance on the bench. Governor Pritzker emphasized that winter sports haven’t been canceled. The governor made the decision in August to move football and several other fall sports to the spring. Here’s the complete story from NBC-5 Chicago.
