Happy National Eat Outside Day

It was the French who popularized “dining alfresco” (in the fresh air); and the Germans took the concept to include outdoor beer gardens… and then it became popular, here, in the U.S.

The practice even inspired trends or eras of furniture and decorating, like the French “Baroque” period, which attempted to bring the outdoors in, and the indoor, out.

And Yogi Bear, from the Hanna Barbera cartoon series, certainly influenced generations of little Americans to “pick up that pick-uh-nick basket, Boo Boo!” – since his 1958 debut on the “Huckleberry Hound” Show.

Today we celebrate the outdoor dining experience, especially after pandemic lockdown.

Ways to celebrate:  A picnic – or just out on your deck, patio or in the yard, perhaps  your local park.
