DARIUS RUCKER TEAMED WITH ED SHEERAN

Darius Rucker teamed with Ed Sheeran to write a song about his first love.  Darius told People Thursday (October 5th) that the pop star helped him pen a tribute to his fifth-grade girlfriend for the song “Sara.”

The two artists met when Sheeran was opening for Taylor Swift during her 2013-2014 World Tour.

Rucker said, “We met then, and I just wanted to write with him. I always wanted to write with him, and finally got to do it. I remember writing the first song and he asked me who my first love was, and I said it was my fifth-grade girlfriend. We just started talking about it, and in between every song he’d ask me something, and we’d talk about it, and then when I thought we were done he was like, ‘I’ve got one more idea, man.’”

According to the 57-year-old, the track, which will appear on his new album, Carolyn’s Boy, is about seeking friendship and comfort in a long-lost connection.  And although he has not seen Sara in more than 40 years, Rucker admits he’d “love to see her again.”

Carolyn’s Boy drops Friday (October 6th).
