Dan + Shay Surprise 3 Homeless Families with Starter Houses: ‘Highlight of Our Year’
Dan + Shay partnered up with Nashville’s Safe Haven Family Shelter to give three families the gift of having a home, to spend Christmas in. Safe Haven helps victims of domestic violence get to shelter; often where abusers can’t find them.
The homes were fully furnished by Ashley Furniture. They were each completed with Christmas decorations, as well.
“It was very emotional watching these families’ reactions when they saw their homes for the first time,” Dan Smeyers tells PEOPLE. “I speak for both of us when I say it was life-changing — it put everything into perspective, and made us truly appreciate all the blessings in our life that we can sometimes take for granted.”
The Country duo said that giving back to the families was their “highlight of the year.” Perhaps it’s worth considering a donation to your local Safe Haven shelter.
