Could Bananas Go Extinct?
Scientists warn:  Cavendish bananas, which make up about half of the world’s banana market, could go extinct.

A new strain of fungal disease has already infected crops in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Australia, and Central America.

Cavendish bananas used to be immune to this disease; but they are not immune to this newer TR4 strain.

Scientists are now working on genetically modifying bananas, to create a resistant replacement for the Cavendish banana.
