Apple Tests a Way to Let Face Recognition Unlock Your Phone – with your Mask On
Apple Issues Beta Software Update – Tests Allowing Users to Unlock iPhones While Wearing Face Masks
Apple is testing out software which would allow iPhone users to unlock their phones, while wearing face coverings.
Still, the feature remains in beta (testing), for now, and may not reach the public for weeks or even months.
Apple says that because Face ID with a mask uses less biometric information, there will be times when a user is not as easily recognized as when their full face is visible – and a user may therefore need to enter their passcode.
This news comes as many states begin to get rid of mask mandates.
