While a number of U.S. states have unveiled plans to begin re-opening businesses as early as Friday, a coronavirus model indicates it’s not safe to do so yet.
The model, maintained by the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. reveals that the states leading in their reopening efforts, South Carolina and Georgia, shouldn’t lift restrictions until June 5th and June 19th, respectively. The simulation assigned the earliest projected reopening — May 1st — to Montana.
Although Alaska, Hawaii, North Carolina, Vermont and West Virginia could reopen on May 10th, about half of the country’s states should remain on lockdown until at least May 25th, according to the model. Several of those states — like Arizona, Nebraska and Iowa — should keep restrictions in place through the end of June, the model reveals. Here’s the complete story from CBS NEWS.
