A Maryland-based confectioner is selling chocolate-covered cicadas

ChouQuette Chocolates & Confections, based in Bethesda, Maryland, shared on Instagram that first the cicadas need to be collected, frozen, boiled, and oiled before they are placed in an air fryer. Once the bugs are cooked and cooled, they can be covered in melt chocolate. When the chocolate has hardened they can be served like any other chocolate-covered snack. Twitter users who caught wind of the offering have shared their thoughts, but not everyone was on board with trying the snack. Select restaurants and chefs throughout the country have been sharing cicada menu items and digital recipes in recent weeks as millions of Brood X cicadas have begun to emerge from the ground in parts of the eastern U.S. ChouQuette says it’s been “inundated with orders” for it’s chocolate-covered cicadas.
