Wilmington VFW Needs Your Help to Stay Open

Roy & Carol had a chance to speak to Gina Wills, Director of Operations at the Wilmington VFW Post 5422 and the VFW Commander Terry Cerutti this morning shedding light on some money problems effecting operations of the post. The post relies on a variety of fundraisers but is unable to do a couple of the more profitable ones, due to lack of funds.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to try and keep the VFW afloat. Here’s more from that page:

We are a Veterans Organization that has been serving our community since 1946 – but unfortunately in 2016 we had a fire and had to get completely demolished. For the last 3 years we have been going thru the rebuilding process and were finally able to open up again on August 13, but because of all the extensive costs we find ourselves close to the point of having to close our doors again. Our VFW has the Honor Guard which provide military funeral services at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. We also provide scholarships and school activities. We serve our local veteran homes free luncheons at least twice a year and we send care packages to our overseas troops as often as we can. We also do Welcome Home and Send Off services for our soldiers going into or coming out of the military. It breaks our heart to come to the point where we have to stop all these services so we are asking for help. Our amazing Veterans deserve all the help we can give them and any donation you give will be used to help us continue with these services plus provide the Veterans a home to call their own. The Queen of Hearts drawing is one of the major fundraisers for the VFW, but Bingo and Fish Fry’s are 2 of the biggest that help the VFW. They don’t have the Bingo Equipment (lost in fire) or the Kitchen appliances necessary to run the Fish Fry’s, breakfast’s, and dinners.
