White Sox will Commemorate 40TH Anniversary of Disco Demolition Tonight

Tonight (Thursday, June 13), the Chicago White Sox are commemorating the 40th anniversary of Disco Demolition Night. Back on July 12, 1979, Chicago DJ Steve Dahl and the White Sox teamed up for a promotional event that offered 98-cent admission to a doubleheader for anybody who brought a disco record to Comiskey Park. The records were to be placed in a bin in centerfield and exploded between games. It was spectacular. But then, hundreds of fans ran onto the field, started setting fires, and of course there were chunks of vinyl all over, and the White Sox had to forfeit the second game. In honor of this historical moment, the White Sox are giving away 10,000 commemorative T-shirts, and Steve Dahl will return to throw out the game’s honorary first pitch.
