Russell explains Why ‘Purists’ Can Frustrate’ Him Russell Dickerson recently sat down with Fox Digital to discuss his success and the currency direction Country music is going in.  When talking about the landscape and those who criticize the genre for not sounding “traditional,” Dickerson says, “I always have been, and I will always think this, but the purists just frustrate me so much, they’re like, ‘Oh, that ain’t Merle Haggard’ or whatever. It’s like, dude, it ain’t the ’70s either, bro. Like, it’s 2022. Collaboration is so easy and so available to everybody, why would we not try?”  Although Dickerson is a big fan of Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw, he says working with Pop singer Jake Scott on his single, “She Likes It” made “magic.” Dickerson said of his dream collaboration, besides Michael Jackson, a collaboration with Usher would be his top choice.
