Return to CST Is the Ideal Time for a Home Safety Check
Return to Central Standard Time Is a Good Reminder for a Home Safety Check

Now that we’ve set our clocks back, over the weekend, it’s a good time to check your smoke and CO2 alarms, if you haven’t, yet.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends we replace batteries our in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, once a year.  And make sure we actually have them where they’re needed.

Permanently wired alarms, with battery back-up, are best.

Fall is an ideal time, to do this, for two reasons:

  • As we head into the cooler season and may use more heaters or even fire inside the home.
  • Most carbon monoxide poisoning also occurs between November and February.

In addition to making sure your alarms are fully charged, the CPSC recommends you make and practice a fire escape plan – ensure that you have two clear paths to get to the outside.
