Kenny Chesney Remembers Eddie Van Halen as ‘A Friend and Hero’

Kenny Chesney took to Facebook soon after the news of Eddie Van Halen’s death was announced on Tuesday.
Chesney reminisced about sharing the stage with Van Halen and his brother, Alex during a tour stop in Los Angeles, California on June 7, 2006. The brothers performed their hit, “Jump” and covered the Kinks’ “You Really Got Me.”
“It was one of the highlights of my touring life in all my summers on the road,” Chesney captioned backstage photos from the show. “Rest In Peace to the best guitar player that ever lived,” Chesney adds. “We will miss you Eddie Van Halen. Your music will live forever!!”
Chesney wrote about his devastation upon hearing about the death of Van Halen and called him, “a friend and a hero.” Eddie had been fighting cancer since 2000 and in 2002 was declared cancer-free. In 2011 cancer resurfaced in his esophagus.
