The Jefferson Street Bridge will be closed longer than expected. The U.S. 30 bridge over the Des Plaines River in Joliet closed in June and was supposed to be completed in August. But the Illinois Department of Transportation announced the bridge will remain closed through the end of the year due to additional needed repairs. (WJOL News)

The closure is necessary to replace mechanical components on the movable bridge. A detour will direct traffic to Raynor Avenue (U.S. 52), McDonough Street (U.S. 6/52) and Chicago Street (Illinois 53).
