It’s National Hot Dog Day. It celebrates that staple of American cook-outs and gas station roller grills everywhere. Numbers vary, but the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates Americans eat 20 billion hot dogs a year, so why not get a deal on something you’re going to eat anyway. Restaurants around the country are offering discounts, including two hot dogs for five dollars at Portillo’s, and Joey’s Red Hots in Orland Park has Vienna Beef dogs for one dollar all day, limit three per customer.
