A report published by the American Association for Cancer Research has good news: Cancer death rates have been falling sharply in recent years.
There are now 18 million survivors in the United States, compared with 3 million in 1971. Doctor Lisa Coussens mentions new treatments, like immunotherapies, have improved the fight against cancer.
“Our ability to utilize or leverage the power of the immune system to fight cancer is huge,” Dr. Coussens said. “It’s why you are seeing much more significant survival rates in many cancers.”
