Kate was persuaded by a man she thought was a wine trader from Seattle to invest in cryptocurrency. However, after she had invested thousands of dollars, her crypto wallet “froze,” and she was unable to access her funds without paying large fees.
Kate originally used the legitimate app Coinbase. But the scammer then convinced her to move to a different app.
“I was the perfect sucker in a way because I knew nothing about cryptocurrencies,” Kate said.
Unfortunately, Kate now has to take out a home equity loan to regain financial security. I would be absolutely un-Hinged.
Last year, crypto scams cost victims $2.57 billion dollars.
