FDA Expands Hand Sanitizer Danger List to Include 1-Propanol

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned yesterday (August 13th) that another harmful chemical has been found in some hand sanitizers. The FDA says certain sanitizer products from Mexican company Harmonic Nature S de RL have tested positive for 1-propanol contamination. They say the chemical “is not an acceptable ingredient for hand sanitizer products marketed in the United States and can be toxic and life-threatening when ingested.” The FDA says products containing 1-propanol have officially been added to its do-not-use list. Federal regulators first warned consumers weeks ago about hand sanitizers that include the ingredient methanol, which can be toxic if absorbed through the skin. Here’s the complete story from UPI.
