Here’s What an Expert Says About an Internet Hack for Falling Asleep Faster  

Sleep doesn’t always come easy.  But, the internet has a hack for everything—including falling asleep and staying asleep.

So, social media creator @missalanablack recently shared on TikTok that drinking some tart cherry juice, before bed, has transformed her sleep schedule for the better.  She claims she drinks one cup, then 15 minutes later, she falls asleep.

Dr. Shelby Harris is a licensed clinical psychologist, who specializes in sleep medicine; and says tart cherry juice contains a good amount of melatonin, the body’s sleep hormone.

But she clarifies, “The melatonin in tart cherry juice may help some get better sleep if you have the occasional bad night here or there, but it’s most likely not going to be the cure for chronic insomnia that a lot of people make it out to be.”

She also says you can try drinking one eight-ounce glass before bed; and if that doesn’t help, don’t drink more the next time, as it’s unlikely to help.

She advises, “Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day is important to maintain your circadian rhythm, and help you get better quality rest at night.  Try to keep as consistent a bed/wake time as possible, and don’t extend your wake time more than 90 minutes if necessary.”

It’s not clear if the TikToker owns any interest in a cherry juice product.
