This is our 6th Annual Buddy Check 22: Veteran Suicide Awareness Scramble. Our mission is to bring awareness to the under treated plight of our returning Vets, PTSD & homelessness. Our inception, 6 years ago, began due to a personal Vet acquaintance who committed suicide. It was decided the best way to bring awareness in our area was via a golf scramble. It worked. We have had 5 very successful years of raising funds to assist these troubled Vets. 100% of all our net proceeds, from the event, are donated to other Vet assistance programs that work with these Vets to help them reintegrate to normal civilian life, as well as supporting our own two programs; Well In Mind and Veteran Recognition / Honor Walk. These programs are in conjunction with Riverside Medical Center. Through Well In Mind, we provide no-charge, confidential mental health counseling sessions to, not only the Vet, but to their support system as well. For the Veteran Recognition / Honor Walk, we have purchased several Gov. Spec. casket flags with triangular presentation boxes for each. For the Veteran Recognition, when a Vet is admitted to the hospital, a flag in the presentation box is placed outside their room. Should the Vet pass while under the Hospital’s care, the flag is removed from the box and draped over the Vet. As the Vet is moved from the room to the morgue, Riverside employed Vets come out to the hallways and stand at attention as the Vet passes. The flag stays with the Vet until burial, when it is presented to the family.

Our scramble is a big celebration of the Vet lives while bringing awareness to the Vet suicide rate of 22 per day. We would love to have anyone available join us for the days festivities. In addition to the golf, we will have Split-the-Pot, Ball Toss, Putting Contest, as well as several raffle & silent auction items. You could also join us for our delicious steak dinner. All we ask for is a $40 donation. If you care to donate to support our mission, you can go to our web-site, Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the “DONATE” button and enter your amount. Any donation is greatly appreciated, whether it be $1.00, $10.00 $100.00. If you prefer to donate by check, please make it payable to “Buddy Check” and mail it to BC22: VSA c/o Don Ball, 913 Quail Dr., Bradley, IL. 60915. We, and the Heroes we serve, greatly appreciate it. God Bless
