Do You Absolutely Need to Use Mouthwash?  Here’s What Experts Say

Do you use mouthwash?  We all know brushing our teeth is non-negotiable.

But Dr. Jeffery Sulitzer, a dentist with SmileDirectClub, says, “Mouthwashes are used to freshen breath, however, [they have] many other benefits such as reducing tooth decay, reducing gum inflammation, whitening teeth, and preventing gum disease.”

Certain mouthwashes also contain ingredients that help strengthen teeth; and therefore help reduce the risk of cavities.

Experts also say you don’t necessarily have to use mouthwash, as long as you have healthy teeth based on your oral care regimen, and your dentist’s approval, but that it can be incorporated into a healthy mouth-care routine.
