It was at the debut of his new song “Drowning” at the Grand Ole Opry, and as Chris setpped into that iconic circle the weight of this powerful song hit him.

“Last week, I debuted my new tune “Drowning” at the Opry and broke down…since then so many people have shared stories of loved ones lost and how they have connected to this song. I want you guys to have this one, and make it your own, so I’m going to release it this Friday.”

The song was written for a close friend of Chris’ that passed away, however the same day as the performance, news of Granger Smith’s son River passing away hit the country music community. It’s not hard for anyone to see why it would be pretty difficult for Chris to get through such a powerful song like this.

“Drowning” will officially be released on June 14th.
