To Honor COVID Victims In the wake of reports that the COVID-19 death toll in the United States has reached 1 million, President Joe Biden on Thursday ordered that American flags be flown at half-staff to honor the pandemic’s victims. “Today, we mark a tragic milestone: one million American lives lost to COVID-19,” Biden said in Thursday’s proclamation. “One million empty chairs around the dinner table. Each an irreplaceable loss. Each leaving behind a family, a community, and a nation forever changed because of this pandemic.” In accordance with Biden’s order, American flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Monday, May 16th.
