ACM Entertainer of the Decade Jason Aldean reveals he spends hours puzzling over the perfect set list

ABC/Image Group LASince the Academy of Country Music recently proclaimed Jason Aldean its Entertainer of the Decade, it’s no surprise the Georgia native knows a thing or two about putting on a live show.

The “Rearview Town” hitmaker admits that often involves hours of puzzling over his set list.

“Each year, you want to try and change it up,” Jason explains. “You don’t want to feel like you’re going out and playing the same songs in the same order.”

“That’s the beauty of putting out a new album,” he adds. “You have some different songs to pull from and put in the show.”

“But even for us,” Jason continues, “I will sit down for hours and stack songs and move ’em around — almost like a puzzle — and try to figure out what works best.”

But the three-time ACM Entertainer of the Year warns you never really know what’s going to work until you try it in front of an audience.

“Really until you get out on the stage and you start playing those songs and kinda feel energy here — or less energy here — it’s hard to tell,” he points out. “Even up until this last week, I’m in there in the dressing room before the show moving songs around, and still trying to find that perfect show…”

“It’s something that I kind of constantly mess with until I feel like we’ve got the best set we can have for that particular point in time,” Jason reveals. “It’s something I work on a lot.”

Jason continues his Ride All Night Tour with Kane Brown and Carly Pearce July 19 in Gilford, New Hampshire, after working several festival dates at the beginning of the summer.
