Joliet 13-Year-Old Girl Drowning Victim in Wilmington; 12-Year-Old Brother Still Missing

Wilmington Police have confirmed with 1340 WJOL that one 13-year-old Joliet girl has died, and her 12-year-old brother is still missing, after a drowning incident along the South Island Park dam in Wilmington.

The Will County Coroner Line reports that 13-year-old Abiyail Arroyo was pronounced deceased at 7:14 PM Monday night, in the Presence Saint Joseph Emergency Room in Joliet.

The Wilmington Police statement says that the 12 and 13 year old youngsters wandered into the Kankakee River and got pulled into the roller current of the dam. Police officers arrived within three minutes, and two would-be rescuers had to be rescued themselves. Twenty-eight year old Alvaro Ibarra of Blue Island was pulled out by a rope, and 25-year-old Ramon Ibarra was ejected from the turbulence and pulled out of the river by the shore line.

Efforts to locate the 12-year-old boy were suspended at 9 PM due to nightfall, and the recovery mission will continue this morning.
